The Chief Data Officer plays a key executive leadership role in driving Data Strategy, Architecture and Governance. The Chief Data Officer is the executive leader for data management activities.

Responsibilities

Activities to Perform:

  • Manages execution of the overall data program as the Executive Sponsor
  • Responsible for the compliance and execution of the data governance program policies, processes and procedures
  • Oversees multiple data programs and manages them at the most granular level in line with the responsibilities laid out
  • Sponsors training, skills development and other aspects of cultural change at the senior most level
  • Responsible for the Data Governance strategy, its execution and ongoing improvements
  • Help facilitate creation of the Data Stewardship Organization

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain relationships across business units to understand current and future information and data needs and strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other architects and understand future strategy.
  • Develop working relationships with Data Management delivery teams to facilitate the adoption of standard methods and tools
  • Sponsor of Data Governance activities which define policies, standards and frameworks

Capability Development

  • Sponsor delivery of consistent information standards, methodologies, guidelines & techniques.
  • Sponsor and lead projects to ensure compliance to standards through consistent engagement of non-conforming parties.
  • Drive the strategy through the Data Governance Program lead resource assignment and utilization of data management resources.
  • Mentor, train and develop staff and project/business personnel on the organization's data vision.

Qualifications

DEPTH/BREADTH OF EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB

  • At least 10 - 15 years of IT experience with at least 5 years involved in data management.
  • Understanding of data requirements in complex environments (e.g. data warehousing).
  • Knowledge of best practices in data governance and data quality improvement.
  • Experience in logical data management, data governance and tools-based data quality improvement.
  • Executive-level experience at driving business and technology change.
  • Excellent relationship skills.
